Aircraft Load Banks

Avtron is an industry leader in the design, development and support of electrical load banks for AC and DC applications. Avtron Load Banks are used throughout the world supporting ground power testing, laboratory load simulation and aircraft generator load testing. We offer Load Banks that are either manually operated via local control panel, or remotely operated via pendent or PLC computer interface. Our load banks can be engineered to meet your custom requirements.

Avtron AC Aircraft Load Banks are resistive, reactive or resistive/reactive. We offer AC reactive load banks for frequencies ranging from 400 to1600 Hz. We offer reactive load banks with lagging power factor (inductive) and leading power factor (capacitive).

Avtron DC Load Banks are offered in 28 VDC or 270 VDC as standard designs.

Avtron Aircraft Load Banks are used in conjunction with Avtron’s K738, K838, and K938 Generator and Starter/Generator Test Stands. They have specific design features which are required for testing of aircraft power systems, including AC/DC generators, power converter units and copper/iron bird simulation labs.

K675a

Key Features & Benefits

  • Avtron Helidyne™, helically wound, corrosion resistant, chromium alloy are carefully selected to operate at conservative temperatures, typically ½ of maximum continuous rating of wire, to provide extended, reliable performance, eliminating the need for a "cool down" period. 
  • Variation in resistance due to temperature is minimized by maintaining conservative watt densities providing higher accuracy.
  • Avtron inductive reactors are designed and built with an iron core and air gap combination that limit magnetic flux levels to assure a power factor of less than 0.05 at rated voltage and frequency. Single and 3-phase Iron core reactors are designed for a 130°C rise in a 50°C environment with a maximum of 5% waveform distortion and 0.05 power factor.
  • Avtron Load Banks are built to last with heavy gauge aluminized steel construction with powder-coat paint, and heavy-duty industrial blowers. Portable load banks are built to resist vibration encountered during transportation.
K490

Small, Portable (Hand Carry) & Rack Mount Load Banks

These Load Bank models are ideal for small load requirements supporting lab and production applications.

K490

The model K490 is a single-phase, self-contained AC load bank designed for indoor use. The K490 provides up to 10KW load at 120 or 240 VAC. Due to its small size and weight the K490 is easily transported to any job site.

K492

For DC loading in a hand carried package, Avtron offers the model K492. This unit provides up to 150 Amperes loading capacity for testing UPS and other DC power sources at either 26 or 52 Volts DC. Due to its small size and weight, the K492 is easily transported to any job site.

T205

For production or lab testing of small, three-phase, 120/208 VAC, 400 Hz power supplies, the T205 is an ideal, compact and self-contained load bank with high accuracy and reliability. The T205 provides individual phase control with infinite resolution from 0 – 1500 Watts resistive (500 Watts / ph) and 0 – 1500 VAR reactive (500 VAR / ph, lagging PF).

T80

The T80 is a three-phase resistive/reactive load bank designed in a cabinet (with casters) or configured for standard 19” rack mounting. The T80 has a capacity of 12 KW resistive (4 KW / ph) and 9 KVAR reactive (3 KVAR / ph, lagging PF) with infinite resolution. The unit is designed for 120/208 VAC, 400 Hz applications. The T80 is the perfect load bank for lab testing or for the portability of small 400 Hz loading.

K990

The K990 is a three-phase resistive load bank contained within a hand-carry portable enclosure. This load bank is ideal for testing aircraft ground power carts in the hanger or on the tarmac. Rated at 75 KW at 120/208 VAC, 3 phase, 400 Hz, interface is via a 6-pin aircraft receptacle. Included with the K990 is a heavy duty transportation/storage case.

K571

Portable (on Casters) Load Banks

The following Load Bank models support higher load applications, primarily for use in indoor repair & overhaul workshops, labs, and production facilities. Like all Avtron Load Banks these models provide excellent versatility and reliability.

K571

The K571 is designed for high capacity DC loading. The K571 provides easy portability in a unit designed for indoor use. The K571 comes in either 28 VDC or 270 VDC configurations. Maximum load is 28 KW (1000 Amp @ 28 VDC) or 104 Amp @ 270 VDC.

K595

The K595 is a three-phase, 120/208 VAC load bank, rated at 41 KW maximum load. The K595 is designed for indoor use and is Wye connected which allows for single phase testing as well. The K595 is a versatile load bank designed for testing of larger 400 Hz AC power supplies..

K696

The K696 is designed for three-phase loads up to 250KW. The K696 is suitable for testing 120/208 VAC, 400 Hz power supplies and ground power units (GPUs).

K980

T103

The T103 is a three-phase, Wye configured resistive/reactive load bank designed for outdoor installation. The T103 has a capacity of 123 KW resistive (41 KW / ph) and 93 KVAR reactive (31 KVAR / ph, lagging PF) with infinite resolution. It is designed for 120/208 VAC, 400 Hz applications. The T103 is the perfect load bank for testing 400 Hz alternators up to 150 KVA.

K675A

Avtron’s K675A is a three-phase resistive load bank designed for outdoor installation. The unit features automatic control (via PLC) and is Wye connected. The K675A has a capacity of 213 KW resistive (71 KW / ph) with 7.2 watts/ph resolution. It is designed for 120/208 VAC, 400 Hz applications. In combination with the K843 reactive load bank(described below), the K675A is the perfect load bank for testing 400 Hz alternators up to 250 KVA.

K843

The K843 is a three-phase reactive (inductive) load bank designed for indoor installation. It is designed for automatic control via PLC communication with a Wye load configuration. The K843 has a capacity of 213 KVAR reactive (71 KVAR / ph, lagging PF) with 33 watts/ph resolution. It is designed for 120/208 VAC, 400 Hz applications. When combined with the K675A resistive load bank (described above), the user can test 400 Hz power sources up to 250 KVA at a 0.8 PF.

K980

Avtron’s K980 Load Bank accommodates both resistive and reactive (inductive) loads. The K980 features outdoor weathproof construction and automatic control via an internal PLC. The K980 has a capacity of 203 KW resistive (67.7 KW / ph) with 7 watts/ph resolution and 203 KVAR reactive (67.7 KVAR / ph) with 28 VAR/ph resolution and Wye load configuration. The unit is designed for 120/208 VAC, 400 Hz applications. The K980 is the perfect solution for testing 400 Hz alternators up to 230 KVA.

Avtron Advanced Digital Monitoring System (ADMS)

The Avtron Advanced Digital Monitoring System (ADMS) represents the new standard in Load Bank Instrumentation allowing Real-Time Data Acquisition and Data Logging directly to your laptop PC or PDA.
ADMS is a Multi-Function Digital Power Meter that provides 3-line digital display of Voltage, Current, Frequency, and Power Measurements. Unlike conventional meters, the large 0.56" extra-bright LED's allow the user to clearly monitor the meter display under any condition 24/7. The meter faceplate features an optical IrDA port for data transfer and comes complete with an IrDA/USB adapter for "plug and play" convenience. Meter parameters are captured from the IrDA port and can be downloaded to your PC or PDA. The Communicator EXT software provides Real-Time Monitoring and Data Acquisition from your laptop PC, allowing the user to display meter parameters in Real-Time Trending or Real-Time Data Logging format. Data can automatically be recorded and saved to your computer which can be easily imported into a Windows spreadsheet.
